Jane Dewey presentsLady Susan
Adapted by Jane Dewey from Jane Austen’s novelAdapted by Jane Dewey from Jane Austen’s intriguing early novel
Beautiful and quick-witted, newly-widowed Lady Susan Vernon marshals all the charms at her command to maintain her place in fashionable Society. But she is ruthless, creating havoc as she manipulates family and suitors alike. Outraged, some go so far as to forget gentility and dub her “a wicked designing adulteress.”
Jane Austen was in her late teens when she wrote the story of this fascinating and surprisingly risqué, anti-heroine.
Jane Dewey’s adaptation keeps all the liveliness of the novella’s letter form and brings to the stage the vivid characters who send those letters winging to-and-fro.
To coincide with the performances of
Lady Susan, we'll be running a three hour workshop on 2 December.
